Pregnancy is rollercoaster. One minute you’re up and the next minute you’re down…and then you throw up.
One minute I’m wondering if the morning sickness will ever end (down), and once it subsides (up), I’m scared that means I’m about to lose the baby (down).
The day before my 7-week ultrasound there were no ups. Just downs. It was a no good, very bad day.
- When I packed my lunch, Esme ate my blueberry muffin.
- When I got out another one, she ate that one, too.
- Kiefer was traveling, so I had to walk Ozzy before work. I gagged the entire time from morning sickness.
- I started spotting.
- A bird pooped in my hair.
I realize now that the birds were calling a truce to our life-long rivalry and wishing me luck with this pregnancy, but it was still gross.
The nights before my 7- and 9-week ultrasounds, I started bleeding. By the next morning, the bleeding had stopped, but every minute in the waiting room was excruciating.
Kiefer was traveling for the first ultrasound, so he lit up as soon as he saw our little one on the screen at the next appointment. But I held my breath until we heard the heartbeat, which was loud and strong.
The baby even waved to us. I swear she was saying, “Hi,” and Kiefer swears he was saying, “High five!”
Because of my prior miscarriages, blood clotting disorder, and some issues with my cervix, in addition to my regular OB appointments, I have appointments with perinatal specialists. They give ultrasounds at every appointment, so we get to see our little one every two weeks.
Am I going to stop worrying? Probably not. But a check-in every 2 weeks will certainly help. So will more bird poop. Don’t tell any birds I said that.

I’ve never had a miscarriage but right through to my fourth and last pregnancy, I was a nervous wreck! I feel for you. Good luck and good thoughts going your way!
August 22nd, 2013 at 9:07 am
Thank you!

I’m not saying I’m an expert, but that picture is of a boy, in case you’re interested. I’m 12 for my last 12 by the way in ultrasound guesses. I’m like a circus freak. Anyway, you sound like you’re doing as well as can be expected. We worry about these damned kids from the second we find out they exist until we drop dead so have fun with that.

Dude…that’s an arm, not a penis. =)

Sending warm and cozy thoughts your way. I had “morning” sickness all day, every day for the Whole, Freaking. Pregnancy. I had a girl and I’m pretty sure that’s why I was sick. Try plain Coke and some graham crackers. I practically lived on that for weeks at a time.
In non-pregnancy related news…. Have you tried the new peanut butter Pop Tarts? O. M. G. They are okay straight out of the package, but if you warm them…. It’s like having melty peanut butter cookies for breakfast!

I have been drinking Coke, and I never drink soda, so it’s weird.
DId you have the plain PB ones or the chocolate PB ones?
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:50 am
THEY MAKE CHOCOLATE ONES??????!!!!!!!

Your little dude is showing off his “guns.”
August 22nd, 2013 at 9:13 am
I have guns, too, so maybe it’s a little dudette.
August 23rd, 2013 at 9:23 am
No question, but boys seem more likely to throw that particular pose, that’s all… Either way, welcome to the Gun Show!

That’s totally a girl. She’s saying, “Where’s my poptart?” or else “I hate poptarts.” I’m not sure which.
August 22nd, 2013 at 9:16 am
I kinda hope it’s “I hate Pop-Tarts.” Three kids stealing my Pop-Tarts maybe be too much.
August 22nd, 2013 at 9:28 am
That’s an excellent point.

Nothing ever goes 100% according to plan. I had so many different issues with my pregnancies but everything turned out great. Best wishes to you and your family!

Not that you asked my professional sonographer’s opinion, but I am pretty sure that little bundle of joy is throwing up his fist in a Black Panther-style ‘power to the people’ salute. If you squinch up your eyes, you can just make out his Bob Marley beanie.

Funny…. I thought the baby was reaching for a Pop-Tart. Congrats, Thoughtsy! He/She is beautiful!
August 22nd, 2013 at 10:19 am
Well, your baby definitely looks like a mini-Thoughtsy to me.

Two Tickets please. Welcome to the Rollercoaster!
August 22nd, 2013 at 10:32 am
I can’t believe Esme ate both of your blueberry muffins.
August 22nd, 2013 at 10:42 am
My dear you will never stop worrying about this baby even when it turns 30 and has his or her own children 😉
August 22nd, 2013 at 11:35 am
Yeah, the worrying continues. But once you hold that bundle o’joy, at least there’s some measure of control over the whole, chaotic mess. Happy, happy, joy, joy!
Oh, & if you like peppermint, that flavor (candy, extract, tea, etc.) helps with nausea of all kinds, from morning sickness to the flu.

Isn’t it good luck to have a bird poop on you? I thought I read that somewhere? I’m guessing that the person who wrote that was not the one who actually got pooped on.
August 22nd, 2013 at 12:02 pm
AHH BIRD POO! NO good. I like your thoughts about the truce though..very positive spin on things. LOUD and strong that’s what I like to hear!
August 22nd, 2013 at 12:20 pm
My first ultrasound at 12 weeks was of my oldest rolling around in there, waving at us. I have 2 boys. I’m not saying that means anything, but you may want to start looking at blue nursery sets, just in case. 😉
August 22nd, 2013 at 12:36 pm
well, to me it looks like a baby, yet to be born – and whatever you will have, you will be happy for it!
August 22nd, 2013 at 12:50 pm
I’m gonna tell the dozens of birds that poop on my car every week to redirect themselves to your place. 😀 Congrats! Continuing to wish you the best in your pregnancy. 😀
August 22nd, 2013 at 12:59 pm
It looks like a baby to me… Congratulations again.
August 22nd, 2013 at 1:18 pm
I reckon your roller coaster is just going to get bigger dips and bigger drops once lil-thoughtsy is out of you and kicking! 😛
Once you’re on getting off is not an option!
Cheers

Congratulations!! I am always afraid that when I do start having children, I will have a lot of issues like my mother did. She had a miscarriage and my brother was born very early. I was a surprise, but still. It’s all very scary, from what I understand. You will be in my thoughts! And maybe you’ll get more muffins. 🙂
August 22nd, 2013 at 8:43 pm
Those frequent ultrasounds really help with the anxiety. I got to have them because I was 38 and 42 when I had my babies. We “advanced maternal age” mamas dubbed our doctor the “geriatric uterologist.” I’m sure he was delighted with that! I hope that once the baby is large enough to feel, your anxiety will decrease. And that you get to eat a muffin!

OH. MMMM. GGGGG. I just flippin’ caught up with you. HOLY COW you are growing a baby and I think it is Thor. He is waving his big hammer in there. LOL. Congratulations!!!! And through the first trimester WOOT! I had a ectopic pregnancy before Sydney and I spent EVERY week of her pregnancy scared to death (the downs). I had a pregnancy journal and that helped a lot. AND, I found out I was pregnant with her on my Birthday too. So, it’s all GOOD, but don’t worry about the downs. They will come and go. Pop Tarts might help…unless you hate them now? LOL.
August 23rd, 2013 at 12:00 pm
cute – keep growing strong little one!
August 23rd, 2013 at 8:23 pm
Keeping my fingers, toes, eyes and chin hairs crossed that all will go wonderfully (minus the throwing up). Hang in there and stay positive. 🙂
August 24th, 2013 at 7:02 am
Totally keeping you in my thoughts! Waving back to baby!!!
August 26th, 2013 at 3:28 am
I know this is meant to be all about the baby… But… WHAT THE HELL ESME?! Two muffins? Don’t you know mama needs her strength?
August 29th, 2013 at 5:32 pm
Do you get to see baby every two weeks forever or just until a certain point? I know it felt weird when I had my last one at 18 weeks because I was so used to seeing the baby regularly up to that point.
August 30th, 2013 at 7:10 am
My regular doctor said just through the first two trimesters, but the specialist said he wants to see me every 2 weeks and then every week in the 3rd trimester depending on how my cervix is doing.
I’m hoping they’ll just let me set up a bed in the office.

Hugs Thoughtsy!! This is the beginning. You will never stop worrying ….even when you sweet baby has moved out of the house.
You are a mother…. it comes with the job.
