While Kiefer, Boo, and Radley had a boys’ night out, I settled onto the couch in my pajamas. Just when I was about to declare that nothing was on, I found Mary Poppins.
Now there’s a no-nonsense lady who had her shit together. Her nannying skills whip that house into shape in less than a week—which is probably why she has no references. My dad always said you need to stay at a job at least 6 months.
Here’s what I learned from the movie:
- Just because Mary Poppins can fly doesn’t mean she’s a witch. Witches have brooms. I suspect Mary Poppins was probably one of the early X-Men.
- If you snap your fingers, your room will clean itself. What the heck, Poppins! You just set up all parents and nannies for failure.
- If medicine tastes good—like a spoon full of sugar—children will take it. Tell me something I don’t know. We do this with Ozzy Pups all the time…except we use peanut butter.
- You never need a reason to step in time. And no one will get mad about chimney soot being tracked all over their house as long as you sing and dance while doing it.
Most importantly, I learned the correct way to fire someone. You bust the top of his hat out and break his umbrella. The firing is just implied.

“Sugar” probably worked lyrically. In the upcoming rap-version re-make, maybe they’ll change it to “peanut but-tah, but-tah, but-tahhh.”
Next I hope you’ll shed a little light on how Jeannie could TCOB with the blink of an eye. That’s still not working out for me.

Now the PB and jelly song is stuck in my head. I blame you.

I tried so many times to jump through the chalk drawings on my pavement, but it never worked.

So… the best way not to get fired is to never wear a top hat to work… Got it. Now I’m invincible!
Gonna miss that hat though…

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I too wish I could jump through sidewalk paintings. Such a sad day when I discovered that was impossible. I really want to see the new movie based off of the making of this one…

I want to see Saving Mr. Banks, too.

I haven’t seen this movie in forever. What I learned from it is that if you get a major case of the giggles, you will float to the ceiling, and the only way to get down is to think of something very very sad.

Lies! I giggle and nothing happens.

I loved this movie. I was always bummed that Mary and Burt never got together. Seriously, what the heck, Disney, way to crush my dreams.

I was thinking the same thing! And what’s their history? Since he already knows her. Maybe they tried and the long distance just didn’t work out.

I know – or Is Mary afraid of commitment? Maybe she has a Burt in every city head over heels in love with her. The world will never know.

I just saw Saving Mr Banks, and fell in love with Mary Poppins even more, but it hits even harder that there is no magical nanny in the world!
Cheers

This is one of my favorite movies. I have a mini poster for it over the toilet in our bathroom. If only you could snap your fingers to clean the house, I’d even go back to college to learn that.

I love this movie. It’s on my top 5 Disney movies list. The only problem with the movie – when I was little I was scared of carousals because I thought the horse would take me away.

Such a timeless movie. I couldn’t figure out how she fit so many things in her bag. I was a smart kid.
