This weekend I hiked the Applachian Trail with friends. Because they’re insane, they hiked 40 miles…in one day. Because I’m not insane, I joined them to hike 8.6 miles.
One of my hiker friends loves lemon. I once saw him down 8 lemonades at dinner.
So when I saw these new Oreos, I had to bring some on our hike.
Worst case scenario, we could drop them on the trail to attract bears find our way back to the car.
Only…about 3 seconds before my coworkers appeared from the first 10 miles of their hike, this happened:
Oops.
So we hiked away. Our mouths watering at the thought of the lemon Oreos we had to leave behind.
8.6 miles later, Kiefer picked me up, brought a spare key, and returned me to my car. I ate warm lemon Oreos the whole way home, and they were delicious.
Then I ate this delicious frozen yogurt from Yogi Castle:
Because after hiking 8.6 miles, you can eat whatever you want without feeling guilty.

When I went to Thailand, they had taro flavoured Oreos! They were epic. To see orange Oreas just blew my mind! How cool. Makes me think, I wonder how many flavours of Oreos there are?
June 20th, 2013 at 8:56 am
I saw Taro flavored frozen yogurt awhile back. I still don’t know what it is.

Nice job on the hike. In 2011 I ran a half marathon and have been of the belief that I can still eat whatever I want. Apparently, that’s ok to do for a day or two, but two years later it’s catching up with me…
June 20th, 2013 at 8:57 am
A half marathon should be worth at last 3 years.
June 19th, 2013 at 8:01 am
Finally, someone who has a decent reason to do exercise – so you can eat as much as you want afterwards.
June 19th, 2013 at 8:03 am
I totally almost bought these for you!! I saw them the week after I got you the sherbert ones (I think that’s what they were, right?). But, I was trying to control myself with the whole “buying everything in the world for Thoughtsy” addiction.
Besides, I’ve gotta save up for a wedding gift. Gold plated Pop Tarts aren’t cheap! 😉

What glorious planet do you live on such that flavored oreos are available for purchase!?
June 19th, 2013 at 9:50 am
The Planet Maryland. I see all the crazy flavors. Have not seen watermelon yet. Which is fine.
June 20th, 2013 at 8:57 am
I hope we never see Watermelon Oreos.
June 24th, 2013 at 12:36 pm
I have been looking for lemon oreos everywhere. I am ready to cut a bitch for them…
June 19th, 2013 at 8:04 am
Only 8.6? Haha not thats fine, I don’t hike
June 19th, 2013 at 8:46 am
The hiker in me thinks I can hike at 11,000 feet elevation. The smoker in me knows I cannot.
June 19th, 2013 at 4:56 pm
Hahaha! Here, here! 🙂
June 19th, 2013 at 8:47 am
SO instead I end up at 11,000 feet with my pulse trying to escape from neck and my inhaler in my bra, just in case ..
June 20th, 2013 at 8:58 am
So that’s where you put an inhaler. I was trying to figure that out.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:35 am
It’s a stealth pocket. *shrug*
June 19th, 2013 at 8:50 am
There are few things more refreshing after a tough workout than Oreos and frozen yogurt. Except if the FroYo came with a million dollars. That’d make it all the sweeter.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:00 am
A million dollars makes everything better,
June 19th, 2013 at 9:21 am
They did 40 miles in one day?!?!?! I don’t know what’s more disturbing, that or watermelon Oreos.
Damn. Now I kind of want to try that hike. I wouldn’t have thought that was possible.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:01 am
They started at 4 in the morning, and they finished at 10 at night. They also said they walked like old men the next day.
June 19th, 2013 at 9:27 am
I love Oreo’s and I would marry them if I could…but they need to CALM THE EFF down with those flavors. WATERMELON!? OK well I still want to try them…
June 20th, 2013 at 9:02 am
I recently learned (a comment below) that Oreos are vegan-friendly, which means they’re Brittany-friendly.
June 19th, 2013 at 9:42 am
I thought your lived on planet Earth, Thoughtsy, but obviously not because real actual people are not smart or kind enough to invent those tasty cookies. I suggest you proceed with caution when eating them… or send them to me and I will *ahem* dispose of them for you.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:02 am
You should be my official taste tester.
June 24th, 2013 at 12:38 pm
Sign me up.
June 19th, 2013 at 10:21 am
This made me giggle. Oreos should be illegal due to their level of addiction.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:03 am
Seconded! They’re dangerous!
June 19th, 2013 at 10:25 am
This single act of Knight-on-a-white-horsery has earned Kiefer the right to have his name hyphenated onto yours.
June 19th, 2013 at 10:45 am
“Because after hiking 8.6 miles, you can eat whatever you want without feeling guilty.”
That’s true. But sometimes I apply that theory to walking out to the mailbox.
June 19th, 2013 at 11:16 am
I (hate to say this but I) am not a huge Oreo fan. I AM however a fan of lemon sweets, which means my mouth is watering at that very picture. YUM.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:05 am
You and Kiefer on the regular Oreos…Must be a West Coast disease.
June 19th, 2013 at 11:16 am
Imagine what you could have consumed had you done the full 40 mile hike. Perhaps eat an entire package of every type of Oreo in existence. Mmmmmmm….
June 19th, 2013 at 11:22 am
Screw hiking! Eat up and be happy!
June 19th, 2013 at 11:40 am
I just want to know if you eat them whole or unscrew them first and eat the icing part before the cookie.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:06 am
I don’t have the patience to unscrew them. I look like Cookie Monster when I eat them. I just shove them in…unless I’m dipping them in hot chocolate.
June 19th, 2013 at 12:04 pm
My favorite part about hiking is when I don’t hike. Now, it shall be eating Oreos when I don’t hike.
June 19th, 2013 at 12:30 pm
You can officially do something I cannot do. That’s amaing. I can’t tell you how many times I have tried HARD to lock my car with keys inside…but it won’t let me. Yeah. It’s true. Time for a Mini Cooper. Unless you actually planned it that way so you didn’t have to share the cookies…then you’re just brilliant and my car is CRUEL!!!
June 20th, 2013 at 9:08 am
For the first time ever, I’m considering a miniCooper as my next car.
June 20th, 2013 at 12:49 pm
I know, right? There’s also secret oreo stashing compartments that a boy could never find.
June 19th, 2013 at 4:28 pm
So..,what are your thoughts in the new watermelon Oreo?
June 20th, 2013 at 9:07 am
Ewwww…. To be fair, I haven’t tried it. But I still think Ewwww….
June 19th, 2013 at 5:52 pm
I went on a week long hike on part of the Appalachian in Maine when I was in college. It was fun but I could have used a few lemon Oreo’s at the time! We met lots of interesting people that had hiked all the way up from Florida (or wherever it starts down there) and had been on the trail for months upon months. Quite a feat, but a little crazy too. The 8.6 miles you did sounds about right to me.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:08 am
We met people who’d been hiking for months, too. More crazy people!
June 19th, 2013 at 8:02 pm
What part of the Appalachian Trail were you on? We have a snippet of it here in WV….
June 19th, 2013 at 10:16 pm
I saw an ad today for watermelon Oreos. I wasn’t sure how I felt about that, what with the lack of chocolate, the essential Oreo ingredient. I’m rather certain warm lemon Oreos would be perfectly acceptable.
June 19th, 2013 at 10:50 pm
So 8.6 is the magic number? Now I know. I hiked for 5 miles while I was on vacation, and I still felt guilty for having my glass of Cherry Chocolate Cake Vodka Coke. Next time I’ll do that extra 3.6 miles so I can have it without guilt. Thanks for the heads up.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:09 am
5 miles is still a good number. I think you could have had 2 cokes and still been ok.
June 20th, 2013 at 11:16 am
That’s good, cuz I’m pretty sure that’s how many I had.
June 19th, 2013 at 11:34 pm
I have NEVER seen lemon oreo cookies. But now I totally want them…thanks. I am sure that they were amazing even warm 🙂
June 20th, 2013 at 1:00 am
Did you know Oreos (the normal flavour ones at least) are vegan? My brother is vegan and I make him a birthday cake entirely from oreo’s every year
June 20th, 2013 at 9:09 am
This is good to know because one of Kiefer’s sisters is vegan. Thanks!
June 20th, 2013 at 1:48 am
I love lemon anything! Wasn’t aware of these Oreos. Will have to try them. Thanks for the tip!
June 20th, 2013 at 9:10 am
Lemon is tricky. But I do love lemon-filled donuts and lemon meringue pie. And now lemon Oreos.
June 20th, 2013 at 2:35 am
I. NEED. THOSE. NOW! I love anything lemon and will be going to the store tomorrow in search of this glorious new cookie. They can keep the watermelon, i refuse to try the milkshake flavored ones, the birthday cake ones look festive but, meh. Lemon…I’m on board.
Oh and congrats on the hiking…lol
Oh and Miss lover of pop-tarts…have you tried/seen the new peanut butter pop-tarts with chocolate frosting?!
June 20th, 2013 at 9:12 am
Seen ’em, bought ’em, Boo and Radley ate all of them, so I bought ’em again. Have you tried them? What did you think?
June 20th, 2013 at 11:36 am
Ha! I’ve bought them twice too and still haven’t tried them…the man keeps eating them all 😦
June 20th, 2013 at 9:39 am
I tried the ones with berry flavor. I bought the bag and brought them home, along with a container of vanilla ice cream. Then I may or may not have crushed up the oreos and mixed them in my ice cream.
As I lie moaning on the couch because my stomach hurt, my honey just looked at me with a *mm hmm* tone of voice.
I know what I did.
June 20th, 2013 at 9:40 am
PS the berry ones are nasty, but I still ate all my ice cream.
June 20th, 2013 at 12:34 pm
I would have said, “Oh, I have to take care of my keys locked in the car so I guess I will have to miss out on the hike, darn.”
