Haaaaaave you met Lisa? Lisa is a humor blogger who plays an unconvincing lawyer in real life. She shouldn’t be allowed around sharp objects, anything breakable, or anything with carbohydrates. She prefers dogs over most people, and food over most everything. Her blog will make you feel better about your own life and remind you that vodka is the answer to everything. Except if the question is “What should I throw on this fire?” Then the answer is definitely NOT vodka.
—
I’m a fan of the 80s. Who isn’t, really? But I like to think I’m a super fan. I also like to think I’m a size 6, but my pants say otherwise.
Whatever. I’m right about the 80s thing.
In addition to my love of Milli-Vanilli and Vanilla Ice (and vanilla ice cream), I also love 80s movies. From a 24-year old Matthew Broderick portraying a high schooler who manages to do an entire week of tourist attractions in 90 minutes, to John Cusack showing us the only real way to show you love someone is to play a boom box loudly at night while sporting a trench coat; 80s movies had a special flare.
It may have been cocaine. Actually, I’m pretty sure it was cocaine.
In honor of this beloved decade, I recently threw my hair in a scrunchie, put down my Rubix Cube, and watched a classic movie from the 80s: The Breakfast Club.
Here’s what I learned from it (aside from the fact I do not look good in hair scrunchies):
1. Pimento does not stick to statues.
This is important information for so many reasons. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wondered if the components of my sandwich would stick to the side of George Washington’s cement face.
I’m happy to report, based upon this film, that lunch meat doesn’t have staying power on a statue. (It also doesn’t have staying power on my stomach.)
I’m hungry.
2. Pixie Sticks are a great condiment for sandwiches.
I always thought pixie sticks were just paper wrappers filled with colored sugar sold in small sticks for the sole purpose of hyping up kids to annoy parents. Who knew they were also great for sprinkling on sandwiches with a side of Cap’n Crunch?
I will remember this new condiment rule the next time I’m subjected to my mother-in-law’s cooking. Maybe the sugar rush will also help me get through another session of looking at her photo albums.
Probably not. Vodka is needed for that.
3. Dandruff can be incorporated into art.
I’m not much of an artist, as I like to think my art is the written word. (I know it isn’t, but let me have this.)
However, should I ever find myself in a situation where I need to depict a log cabin on a snowy evening, I will lay off the Head and Shoulders Shampoo for a few days and use my dry scalp to make the artistic piece complete.
It really gives a new meaning to “putting a piece of yourself into the artwork.”
4. Flare guns and lockers do not mix.
The combination of these two will get you detention every time, especially if you bring one to school in order to kill yourself, but then leave it in your locker.
Additional tip: If you plan on killing yourself, you may want to be in the vicinity of the weapon when it’s actually discharged.
Anthony Michael Hall is clearly all looks and no brains.
5. Claire may be a family name, but it’s also a fat girl’s name.
It’s also the name of a great place to get inexpensive earrings and jelly bracelets, which are totally making a comeback.
The 80s really do live on.
6. Show Dick some respect.
Seriously. You should.
7. Anyone can be pretty when enough make-up is applied.
Actually, Kim Kardashian taught us that too.
8. No one believes you have a girlfriend in Canada.
Just ask Manti Te’o. We should all take a lesson from that guy. That shit will come out.
And no one believes you have a girlfriend anywhere, Anthony Michael Hall.
Take the Dead Zone gig with USA Network and call it a day.
9. If everyone gets up, it WILL be anarchy.
If just Andrew gets up, it will lead to the violation of a fire code.
10. Movies from the 80s were often illogical and featured the same handful of actors.
Yet they are still some of the best movies around. Now who wants to watch Sixteen Candles with me?

One of my favorite movies of all time!! And I too am a lawyer obsessed with all things 80s. Now, did someone say something about Sixteen Candles? I’ll make the popcorn if you bring the vodka.
Oh, but you forgot one very important lesson from this movie . . .
If you mess with the Bull, you get the Horns.
May 20th, 2013 at 6:33 pm
How could I forget the bull comment? I’d like to say I was trying to be creative and didn’t want to go with the “go to” phrase, but that would be a lie. I totally forgot about that.
But I felt like throwing in the “Show Dick some respect” was a way of at least honoring him.
You’re a lawyer too?! You poor thing! 🙂
Thanks for reading and commenting. You can always check me out at my blog at http://lisanewlin.com, where I make fun of more random things, 🙂
May 20th, 2013 at 8:44 am
Based on the intro alone, I think Lisa might be my soulmate.
May 20th, 2013 at 12:20 pm
That’s what I thought, too. Mmmm…vodka….
May 20th, 2013 at 6:34 pm
Jules, you are obviously an amazing person with a wonderful soul (and a wonderful palette.)
Thanks for reading and commenting. If you want to read more about my love of vodka, feel free to check out my blog at http://lisanewlin.com.
If I could make a scratch and sniff site that smelled like vodka and Chipotle, I would totally do that. Until then, you can visit anyway.
May 20th, 2013 at 9:03 am
I love everything 80s! Great post!
May 20th, 2013 at 6:37 pm
The fact that your “name” is “brickhousechick” proves you’re an 80s fan! Who would want to leave that era? It was such a fun time and many of the trends are coming back again soon.
I can’t wait for some of the stuff to come back; like anklelets. we definitely need to buy anklelets.
May 21st, 2013 at 10:43 am
Anklets went out of style? Oops. I didn’t get that memo. Must’ve been all the vodka.
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:49 pm
Just to be clear, vodka will NEVER go out of style.
May 23rd, 2013 at 1:11 pm
NEVER!
May 20th, 2013 at 7:56 pm
If you want to celebrate the 80s with me, feel free to come visit me at http://lisanewlin.com. I’m there 24/7 (I have no life).
Here’s a post about “Saved by the Bell” in case you need an immediate 80s fix.

May 23rd, 2013 at 4:51 pm
I loved Saved by the Bell! I hope that show makes a come back. I’d love to know where they are today!
May 20th, 2013 at 2:32 pm
#2 – I’ve wanted to try that for so long!
May 20th, 2013 at 6:40 pm
Do it! It might actually be good; I mean, as if Cap’n Crunch doesn’t have enough sugar to initiate full blown diabetes. Plus, adding this to a sandwich definitely brings out the flavor of the generic processed bread.
Everyone wins!
Thanks for reading and commenting! I appreciate it. And feel free to check out my blog at http://lisanewlin.com
May 20th, 2013 at 3:37 pm
#7 is the truest statement of all time! Go Lisa!
Cheers
Choc Chip Uru
May 20th, 2013 at 6:43 pm
I’m glad you agree. I assume you agree with both the statement that everyone is prettier with make-up, and the fact that Kim Kardashian is hideous and scary without the 3 pounds of make-up she dons each day.
Seriously, she scares me when there isn’t at least an inch of make-up between her skin and the bazillion cameras that are always in her face (most likely because she asked them to be).
Thanks for reading and commenting. If you want to read more of my mocking, feel free to check me out at http://lisanewlin.com. I promise I wear make-up in most of my pictures so they aren’t overly scary.
MOST of the pictures aren’t overly scary. 🙂
May 20th, 2013 at 5:06 pm
I’m totally down for 16 Candles! The Donger rules! [Gong!]
May 20th, 2013 at 6:44 pm
The Donger rocks the hizzouse! Would you believe that i made a reference the other day to Long Duck Dong the other day and they had no idea what I was talking about.
I think I got a little teary eyed.
Thanks for reading and commenting. Perhaps I will write another post about the Donger.
May 20th, 2013 at 7:54 pm
Oh, and my website is http://lisanewlin.com in case you can’t wait until I write a post about the Donger. There is plenty on that site to keep you busy for a while reminiscing about the 80s.
May 20th, 2013 at 7:00 pm
Brilliant! I lovingly call my vodka ‘potato juice’ so I can pretend I’m being the slightest bit healthy while blowing up my liver.
May 20th, 2013 at 7:53 pm
You my friend, are the brilliant one! I may just steal your idea of potato juice and start calling it that. I also like to call it “mommy’s medicine” and “my cough syrup” but that usually creeps people out because (1) I don’t have kids and (2) I don’t have a cough.
Thanks for reading and commenting. If you want more of me (who doesn’t?), feel free to visit my blog at http://lisanewlin.com 🙂
May 20th, 2013 at 8:05 pm
Lisa…..I need to go back and watch that movie. I totally missed the dandruff life lesson…obviously some of the “deeper” meanings escaped me.
May 20th, 2013 at 9:16 pm
Amy,
That’s one of those scenes I can’t get out of my mind! She just shook her hair and all that dandruff came out. So gross!
May 20th, 2013 at 8:28 pm
#10 is definitely true. I loved all those 80s movies!
May 20th, 2013 at 9:20 pm
They really don’t make movies like they did in the 80s. If one of those classics came to the theater now, everyone would think they were stupid. I think they were great!
May 20th, 2013 at 9:01 pm
What an educational movie that Breakfast Club was. I also learned that I do not have enough cleavage to apply lipstick by inserting it in my decolletage.
May 20th, 2013 at 9:19 pm
Yeah, it’s a pretty educational film. They should probably show it in middle school to prepare kids for how high school really is. It’s TOTALLY accurate. (to be read sarcastically).
And I guess I never thought about the application of lipstick via cleavage. I may have to give that a whirl. I’ll report back.
May 20th, 2013 at 9:15 pm
I will totally watch Sixteen Candles with you any day of the week, because I still love that movie even so many years later!! And seriously show Dick some respect (best line ever!!).
May 20th, 2013 at 9:17 pm
It’s a date, Janine! And can we make Long Duck Dong jokes too?
And Matt and I randomly say “Show Dick some respect!” It’s the perfect line. 🙂
May 20th, 2013 at 10:20 pm
Thank you for that hilarious trip down memory lane. Oh to be a teenager in the 80s, I feel totally blessed!! I love the song at the end of that film. I will only watch 16 candles if you supply the vodka!
May 22nd, 2013 at 8:58 pm
I will supply the vodka if you bring the pixie sticks. We will need lots of pixie sticks. It’s a really long movie.
Oh, and we’ll need a gong.
May 20th, 2013 at 11:19 pm
What I learned about The Breakfast Club was that there was no one who looked as old as Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy in high school. No one. As always you’re hilarious. Looking forward to your lessons from Sixteen Candles, my fave movie of the 80s and one of my fave pretend boyfriends “Jakey-Poo”.
May 22nd, 2013 at 9:00 pm
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed my post! I was lucky enough to be asked to guest post here and I’m quite grateful.
And Jake Ryan is dreamy. I like to doodle his name and mine and surround it with hearts. He’s my dreamweaver. 🙂
May 21st, 2013 at 10:47 am
Who doesn’t love the 80’s?
My kids think they grew up in the 80’s (they were born in the 90’s) because I wouldn’t allow anything else to exist. Except for Teletubbies and Power Rangers of course. And that right there just goes to show that everything went to hell after the 80’s were over.
May 22nd, 2013 at 9:22 pm
You’re such a good mom! I hope you have introduced them to slap bracelets. Please tell me you have!
May 23rd, 2013 at 1:10 pm
I introduced them to MY slap bracelets because wouldn’t you know, I still had some from my teenage years.
I also showed them my collection of jelly bracelets. Of course most of them were black because I was a rebel. 😉
And let’s not forget about the bandanas that were worn around our thighs. Ridiculous.
May 23rd, 2013 at 10:35 pm
You know, I never did the bandannas around my thighs, which sucks because my thighs were little back then. I’d have to string a few bandannas together to get it tied around my thigh now.
I miss my youth…or rather, my youth’s thighs.
May 24th, 2013 at 12:04 am
I never did the bandana thing either, but my best friend at the time did because she could actually pull it off and look cool. Her hair looked like C.C. DeVille from Poison.
Ha! How about that for a flashback?! Oooooh yeah.
May 21st, 2013 at 12:20 pm
One of my favorite movies ever and now one of my 14 year old’s favorite movies as well. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Before The Breakfast Club, my son had NO CLUE who Barry Manilow was. I like to think that this movie opened up that very meaningful conversation. As a matter of fact, he had no idea what a turkey pot pie was either. Can I bum my doobage? Bahahahaha!!!
May 22nd, 2013 at 9:29 pm
HE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT A TURKEY POT PIE WAS?! I’m glad you’ve righted this wrong. I can sleep so much better tonight.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this post!
May 21st, 2013 at 12:47 pm
Oh Lisa you are truly one of the funniest people on the planet! 😉 Can we next figure out what we all learned from Sixteen Candles and Better Off Dead? Please? Pretty please???
May 22nd, 2013 at 9:01 pm
Ha! I don’t know if I’m one of the funniest people on the planet, but I shall take your comment as totally true!
I really should do more of these little posts. It was so much fun to think of all of those things. It didn’t take any time at all either, which probably just means I watch too many 80s things.
May 22nd, 2013 at 9:03 pm
You can NEVER watch too many 80s things!
May 21st, 2013 at 1:08 pm
The Brat Pack of the 80s! (St. Elmos Fire had a lot of the 80’s cast too). Love 80s teen films. Especially Breakfast Club; when I had to take the ACT on a Saturday, the first thing I told my dad was that no one got high in the library.. such a disappointment. haha. I’m still working on hands free makeup application too lol.
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:51 pm
I fricking love St. Elmo’s Fire! (Both the movie, and the weather phenomenon).
I’ve often thought of trying out the hands free makeup application. I’m…ahem…busty…and I think I might be able to pull it off. Come to think of it, I bet I could use those bad boys for a lot of different things….
May 21st, 2013 at 2:34 pm
Absolutely one of my favorite movies from the 80’s! The Brat Pack was the best back then. Great guest post, Lisa!
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:46 pm
Thanks, Marcia! I appreciate your support and how you always read my posts. You’re so sweet to torture yourself for me. 🙂
May 21st, 2013 at 10:30 pm
Breakfast club: Showing us that interesting, non-traditional materials can be used in creating art.
That and Duchamp.
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:48 pm
Peter,
You’re such an insightful soul. Don’t go to law school. Don’t do it. Don’t waste your insight. Need I cite 80s examples of lawyers to support my assertion? Don’t make me bust out LA Law references.
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:08 am
Those are some great life lessons you’ve mentioned. This movie is important on so many levels because of the questions it raises:
Is it possible to look beyond our differences to see the sameness?
Is it any wonder teenagers often falter when trying to navigate those difficult years?
Can Pixie Sticks also be used on a Fruit Loops sandwich?
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:52 pm
You pose some interesting questions, but the last one is particularly intriguing.
My answer is no, you can’t. I mean, unless you want early onset of diabetes. 🙂
May 23rd, 2013 at 12:13 pm
You got FPd while posting over here on Thoughtsy’s site? Are you kidding? Not that it isn’t a brilliant post – it is, but that’s just…kinda bizarre that she’s going to get the increase in readers, etc.
I’m guest posting here today. Do you think I’m a shoe-in for being FPd?
Congratulations, by the way. That is great!
May 23rd, 2013 at 10:32 pm
Yeah, it kind of sucks it wasn’t on my own page, but I’m happy she’ll get the traffic. I guess it will come around in some way, right.
And hey, I bet you’ll get some of the benefit from the increase in traffic too!
I’ve never been FPd and you know it will totally never happen again! They need to go to my blog! 🙂
May 24th, 2013 at 5:18 pm
Nah- it will happen again. FP isn’t like lightning that doesn’t hit the same place twice. In fact, now that WordPress has discovered you, they’ll keep their eyes on what you write.
Unless they missed your name at the top and they keep their eyes on what Thoughtsy writes. Er…I mean…er.
The important thing is, you’re a good writer so your future will be full of FPs for sure!
May 24th, 2013 at 11:46 pm
You’re so sweet to say/type that! I appreciate it. I suppose I will just hold my breath and hope they come to my page too!
May 22nd, 2013 at 12:29 pm
I learned that my cleavage may have extremely important cosmetic application skills.
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:53 pm
You totally tried this. I know you did. Admit it. (I’m considering trying it later this evening. Do you think I could do it with mascara too?)
May 23rd, 2013 at 5:21 am
Well, they should have had a disclaimer to not try that at home…but I did — and practice makes perfect!
You may have ‘A Christmas Story’ situation on your hands with the mascara but follow your dreams girl
May 22nd, 2013 at 2:06 pm
Love this post. I LOVE 80’s anything!! And yes I love 80’s movies too! ….I love the Kim before and after pic though—is that for real? If so–wow, makeup does really do wonders.
Congrats on being FP! 🙂 Now off to see the movie “Mannquein” 😀
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:55 pm
Thanks! I’m so glad you enjoyed this post. I’m pumped about being Freshly Pressed, although it’s strange it’s on another person’s site!
Isn’t that always the way it goes? I get freshly pressed on a guest post.
if you want to check out my other stuff, feel free to do so at http://lisanewlin.com
I really think I should do a post about Mannequin. It was one of my favorite movies. Mannequin 2? Not so much.
May 22nd, 2013 at 2:12 pm
If you ARE going to put vodka on a fire–because, well, you’ve had too much of it to know better–definitely don’t throw the glass in with it. That’s an important lesson that I think the children of this country need to learn before it’s too late.
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:56 pm
You make an excellent point. Kids today need to learn the importance of recycling and how are they going to learn that if they’re throwing glasses on a vodka-fueled fire?
Kids today just aren’t what they used to be.
So, do you have any vodka? Just hypothetically speaking, of course. 🙂
May 23rd, 2013 at 1:03 pm
Of course. Hypothetically speaking, if I had any vodka I would have polished it off before work this morning. That’s just a hytpahotehtical …
May 23rd, 2013 at 10:34 pm
I think we are going to get along just fine…and that’s NOT a hypothetical.
May 23rd, 2013 at 10:51 pm
Sweet! I have some more vodka (pouring you a hypothetical and stiff drink).
May 22nd, 2013 at 2:14 pm
my blog is epic please look i only 13
May 22nd, 2013 at 2:20 pm
Funny and articulate prose.
Love the 80’s. Is it wrong to consider myself a baby of that decade even though I was born in ’88?
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:58 pm
It’s not wrong to consider yourself a baby of that decade if you were born in ’88! It is, however, considered wrong to call me old because I was born in ’80.
I’m glad you enjoyed this post. Feel free to visit me at my normal home at http://lisanewlin.com
May 23rd, 2013 at 12:41 pm
I would never!
🙂
Sure will!
May 22nd, 2013 at 2:25 pm
Wow awesome blog! I should blog more stuff like this! 🙂
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:58 pm
Aw, thanks! I must admit the idea for the “Things movies taught us” is all Thoughtsy. I just came up with the movie.
She’s a smart gal. And funny too!
May 22nd, 2013 at 2:27 pm
Yes…thanks for this!
May 22nd, 2013 at 10:59 pm
You’re welcome. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I assume you will show your gratitude in money? I don’t accept checks, but cash works. 🙂
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:09 pm
How about “ass, gas, or grass”?
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:21 pm
All three are accepted tender, and one of them is my favorite pass time. 😉
May 23rd, 2013 at 12:15 am
Any hints?
May 23rd, 2013 at 9:25 am
If you read my blog, you will know the answer, but since you don’t know me and are new to my blog, I will tell you.
It’s gas….as in flatulence. I’m super gassy. It’s a good thing I write a blog and don’t do stage performances….I’d clear the room. 🙂
May 23rd, 2013 at 10:06 am
damn…I just lost my erection…
May 23rd, 2013 at 10:31 pm
I have that effect on SO many people….
May 22nd, 2013 at 2:30 pm
That sad sad scene where Ferris Bueller’s friend kick the crap out of the Ferrari- traumatic…
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:00 pm
I know! It makes me want to cry when he does that!
You know what else makes me want to cry about that film? Jennifer Gray totally got put in a corner when she was cast as his sister. She’s better than that.
We’re all better than that.
May 22nd, 2013 at 3:20 pm
loved it 🙂
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:01 pm
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Feel free to visit me on my regular blog at http://lisanewlin.com

Oh my, this is sooo funny.
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:02 pm
Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed my post and it gave you a chuckle or two. It’s my only goal in writing these posts.
Oh, and world peace. My goal is always to initiate world peace. 🙂

May 22nd, 2013 at 3:29 pm
I’m going to get jelly bracelets. Right now!
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:03 pm
If you get jelly bracelets, can do cris cross them the way Ricky Schroeder did with his on “Silver Spoons?” Remember how he wore two but had them crossed in the middle.
He was so dreamy.
And jelly bracelets aren’t complete without jelly shoes. You must purchase both.
May 22nd, 2013 at 3:37 pm
Right on all accounts, except #7. Your example proves the statement wrong. Kim Kardashian? Ugh.
I had fun reading the post though. Thanks for the entertainment. 80’s movies did have a special style. LOVE 16 Candles. The crush I had on Molly Ringwald may have something to do with that though.
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:04 pm
Please tell me your crush on Molly Ringwald was pre-pubescent and you were in desperate need of glasses at that time. I just don’t think she’s attractive. I don’t get it.
And feel free to come visit me on my regular blog at http;//lisanewlin.com. However, I can assure you there will be no Molly Ringwald anywhere. You’ve been warned.
May 22nd, 2013 at 3:45 pm
Now my secret is out and I thought I was the only one that had Pixie Sticks are a great condiment for sandwiches!
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:05 pm
Pixie sticks are a great condiment for anything. They are also the only way to get through Christmas Eve mass at 10:30 p.m.
May 23rd, 2013 at 12:35 pm
I didn’t know they let you eat at Christmas Eve mass? Thanks for sharing. http://www.segmation.com
May 23rd, 2013 at 10:33 pm
You have to eat before you go in. Those nuns will knock that sugar right out of your hands once you step inside the church. You have to sugar load before you go.
May 22nd, 2013 at 4:08 pm
i really enjoyed reading you words.
hope to see you visiting my page

May 22nd, 2013 at 4:23 pm
I didn’t realise until recently about how influential the 80s movies have been. I didn’t know either how I was going to like The Breakfast Club years after I first saw it! 🙂
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:07 pm
It’s funny how when you watch “The Breakfast Club” as an adult, you suddenly understand all kinds of references that flew over your head when you were younger.
And each reference is gold and hilarious.
May 27th, 2013 at 11:44 am
True!
May 22nd, 2013 at 4:59 pm
I miss music and movies from the 1980’s.. I feel strangely fortunate to have been alive during that decade. They certainly don’t make them like they used to..
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:08 pm
Agreed! Music just isn’t as catchy as it once was, and movies don’t have that kind of kitchy feel. I miss that. we need to bring that back.
May 22nd, 2013 at 5:07 pm
Haha what a funny post! You do what I aim for, keeping your writing relatable and funny. Nothing better than someone who can poke fun at themselves!
May 22nd, 2013 at 11:09 pm
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment! I appreciate it so much. You can read more of my stuff at http://lisanewlin.com
Thank you for reading and commenting. Feel free to always deliver random compliments to me, just like this one. 🙂

I hope you read that in the Simple Minds voice. I wrote it that way. 🙂

I started following you and liked this article before I even read it. That profile intro was hilarious! And the *Do not send kitten-flavored poptarts* was great, too.

Well, I wrote my own intro, but since this isn’t my blog, I can’t take credit for the “Do not send kitten-flavored poptarts,” although I will agree it’s genius and hilarious.

hilarious!!! watched that movie several times mostly out of boredom on the old usa networks on Saturdays cuz the cartoons started waning but never, ever, did I think of any of those on your list. HA! I may never watch some movies the same way. The takeaways? Pimento loaf!!! lol congrats

Noted. If it makes you feel better, on my own blog, the link and mini post I created sending people to this page had a picture of puppies and a threat that if people didn’t read this post, the puppies wouldn’t get their treats.
There are a lot of dog lovers out there, and the dogs got plenty of treats!

I just watched the Breakfast Club about 2 weeks ago, for the first time since it was at the movies! I watched it with my 13 yr old daughter for a laugh. Your creative approach in picking out a few elements of the film and turning them into an amusing essay was really enjoyable! Well done!

Good one, I really enjoyed your post!!!
I love the 80s and everything about that fabulous decade. I feel very lucky to have been just old enough to enjoy it.
About the breakfast club, the one invaluable lesson I learned from it is that you have to have Molly Ringwald’s exact boob size to pull off the lipstick thing. I’ve tried it and I either have the wrong boob size or I’m just too clumsy to do it properly.
June 22nd, 2013 at 3:09 am
Sadly, I’ve tried the lipstick thing and I don’t do too badly at it. I guess my boobs are just super talented…either that, or I have too much time on my hands…er…boobs.

I think movies are made primarily to make money. I think the real tragedy is when people go and then complain how nasty the film was? without doing as I say some research before going? and then wonder why so many nasty dirty filth movies are being made?
May 23rd, 2013 at 10:16 am
Witty, Satirical, and very humorous. *Follows*, Good stuff. Being a 90’s child I’m not really sure how I feel about films from the 80’s. A really odd transitional period from a decade that had superb movies inspired by the context and drama that happened within it, leaving the 80’s fairly limp in terms of Cinematic inspiration.
June 22nd, 2013 at 3:10 am
The movies from the 80s definitely had their own flare, but since I’m a child of the 80s, I love them!

Movies: a mixed bag. Increasingly, politics driven. Politically motivated people are too willing to engage in behaviors to melt civilization’s glue for their own quest for control.

Hahaha I loved 80’s movies as well, they were the best, maybe surreal but still more realistic than today’s movies I mean come on, vampires that sparkles, zombies that become humans, werewolves that are like bear size wolf? no no no, 80’s movies just rock! I could watch a John Hughes movie everyday of the week :)!!!
June 22nd, 2013 at 3:13 am

Love your review. The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Say Anything…all classics in my book! Being an 80’s child, I honestly never thought I would miss that era. These movies remind me that it wasn’t all bad music, neon colors, and hairstyles that included a whole can of aqua net! I’ve actually had a few nightmarish flashbacks with 80’s style making a recent comeback of neon scrunched Wig Wam socks, leggings with an oversized shirt tied on the side, and sideways pony tails. Until I read this post the only good things I could think of that came out of the 80’s were the Beastie Boys and Guns & Roses, thank you for reminding me that it wasn’t all bad.

Bring back the 80’s!!
We had the best movies back then. I still love them, Breakfast Club included.
My daughter had 80’s Day at school and I delightedly went to my closet to find some of my asymmetrical shirts and parachute pants. As only a tween can, she told me those weren’t 80’s style. So then I pulled out my scrunchy socks, Izod, and Chino’s. Which look did she want?
She ended up going with a “Flashdance” ensemble. Which I also had tucked away… 🙂
