You’ve Never Seen a Zombie Movie?

Recently, I received this letter from The Hipster. Of course, I acted immediately because the zombie apocalypse is just around the corner.

Dear Guest Blogger:

What’s the deal with zombies? Specifically, why does everyone love them? More specifically, why don’t I love them?

I’ve been thinking about this, and it seems to be getting in the way of some of my relationships. My lack of zombie love is creating a gap between me and some of my favorite people. It seems to be a generational thing, and I am all about not acting my age, so I’ve decided to make a change.

I, Hippie Cahier, am going to set aside my peace, love, and dandelion-necklace ways and cross something off my Stuff I Want To Do List (because I am also all about multi-tasking): I’m going to watch a zombie movie.

Since I’m new to this, I want to do it right. Can you give me some tips for watching a zombie movie? How should I prepare? Oh, and if you have any suggestions for best zombie movies for beginners, I’d love to hear them!

Desperately Seeking Zombie Fever,

I must confess, I’m not that enamored of zombies. They’re not a very… elegant monster. (Ducks) But, I LOVED Zombieland. So I think that would make for an excellent “beginner’s” zombie flick 😉

Do you have to practice on the doll to prepare for the uncoming zombiepocalypse? I might need to get me one of those, stat.

  • Amy

I knew that was you who sent that zombie stuff to her!

Woah, what a great question. Good thing I got here just in time. If you really want to try out the genre I would highly recommend a book, World War Z by Max (son of Mel) Brooks. The Brad Pitt movie version will be out late 2012.

But you need to try a movie. If you get scared easy then maybe start with a movie that adds comedy like Zombieland. That’s pretty good.

Oh, I think my new night terror is Hippy Zombies.

I don’t do zombies, vampires or roller coasters. I do dolphins, dogs and happiness. My movies and books are my fantasy worlds. Happy fantasies, not bloody, nasty fantasies.
    Call me a wimp.

I have nightmares about zombies……brains! brains!

See the advice and zombie tools? Okay, I’ll bite. lol.

Skip the zombies… vampires are better and sexier

My husband Alex is a big fan of zombies. He can’t wait for his favorite series to start up again “Walking Dead”??? I am not a fan. I’m a vampire girl myself. But to each his or her own I always say.

Hello! I like your blog. I found it because I was watching the blog “thesimplecountrylife.com” and was reading the comments when amused me yours. I’ve subscribed to your blog.

So it’s not just me who hasn’t?

I was at Barnes and Noble last night, picking up the new Tina Fey book, and there was a whole shelf dedicated to zombies. I passed by it, and then I started to laugh. It reminded me of you!

I’m the same way…what is it with frackin’ Zombies? I did a blog post on this too and I didn’t get too many answers other than it’s just people’s illusions as to what the apocalypse will bring. It’s just bizarre!

That doll looks strangely like someone I know. Stick a pin in it, I want to see if this person reacts.

You need a root beer float, popcorn, and peanut butter M & M. You are then ready to watch Shaun of the Dead and laugh your ass off!

I recommend Zombieland as well. I loved that movie and I’m a Zombie Fear filled non-zombie fan who is slowly being turned into a zombie fanatic completely against her will due to little miss Thoughtsy here and that Amy girl who just LOVE the zombies and write very interesting things about the zombies that I just can’t help reading because I like to read interesting things even if they’re about zombies which are scary, scary creatures that just don’t give up unless you shoot them in the head and I’m a terrible aim, so I’m pretty sure I’ll go quick when the zombie apocalypse finally happens and…I’m sorry, what was the question?

Dawn of the Dead…straight into the deep end. ‘S what I reckon eh.

It’s so weird… you either like zombie movies or you don’t. And it’s just in you. You can’t force yourself to like them. I remember my love of zombie movies began in 2009, when my cable offered free HBO for a weekend, and Dawn of the Dead (the new one) was on. I caught it about halfway through….. and loved it. Then I proceeded to watch the first half, and then the second have again. After that, I thought I just liked that one movie. Until I found every time I watched a zombie or zombie-esque movie, I loved it. Now I’m a zombie fan. Although I couldn’t really tell you why!?

Zombies are the best! Dan and I are going to be volunteer zombies next weekend for the run for you life race! I am soo excited!! Miss ya!

I’m excited to read this! I’m also pleased to report that the same doll you’ve pictured above was one of Li’l D’s first gifts, from friends who know Li’l D’s parents.

When Ba.D. and I were dating, my eyes would glaze over when he’d talk about why he liked zombies. To me, these were the least compelling of all horror creations.

So Ba.D. gave me a couple of books to read and, dammit! I saw where he was coming from.

You, Misty, Paula, Shane (aka. wagthedad) and the rest of the posse are gonna have to head to P-Town right quick because the annual Zombie Death March on October 30th is in desperate need of pledges and support if it’s going to happen again. Every year we flash-mob the shit outta Portland in full zombie gear; performing the dance to “Thriller” and wandering the streets of downtown Portland in quest of braaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiins! This year “The Man” is making us pay to do it. We’re kinda half-assed fund-raising because. . .seriously? We’re gonna do it anyway. That’s just how we roll in Oregon. Either way, if you want the ultimate George Romero ‘Dawn O’ The Daead’ experience, we can hook y’all up, Nortwest style.

Never seen ONE zombie movie? Really? I recommend the original “Night Of The Living Dead.” The one in black & white.

  • Luda Kristen

I just posted over at Hippie’s site, but I’ll report here, too.

The Walking Dead! I just watched it. It’s not a movie, it’s a series on AMC. The first season came out last year, I think. Anyway, it was muy excelente.
