Remember when the wolf sat in my lap? That flippin’ rocked.
Zombie Princess Leia over at Fix It or Deal visited the Seacrest Wolf Preserve as well. You should check out her post because she rubbed a wolf tummy.
Reading her post made me miss my lap wolf, Cocoa. I can’t wait to go back for more wolf snuggling!
But it also made me think about how much I love animals. Except birds. And snakes. And bugs.
My 30 Before 30 list is nearly complete. What animals can I visit for my 35 Before 35 list? (Yes, I’ve slowly been drafting my next list.) Maybe a dolphin? In China you can play with a baby panda…but flying to China is a bit out of my price range.
Anyone have any animal suggestions?

Regarding the dolphins: You should totally swim with dolphins! We did this one year on vacation in Key West. They take you out to wear they know a pod of dolphins hang (its like a bar in the ocean for dolphins, they (the dolphins) are usually all hammered therefore they don’t mind you swimming with them. In all seriousness it’s amazing. They give you snorkels and you get in the water and swim with them..hints the trip being called swim with dolphins. Damn I’m funny this am. Anywhoo…on our swim with the dolphins excursion we got to witness dolphin porn! AND we have it on video!!! More bang for your buck you could say! It was truly a cool thing to be in the water with them and see them so close. I highly recommend it!

I really want to swim with dolphins…maybe on my cruise….
You have a dolphin make-out session? Crazy!
January 11th, 2011 at 9:22 am
Dolphins have always been on my list, definitely add dolphins! And tigers, yes some kind of big cat.
January 12th, 2011 at 10:00 am
Dolphins is definitely on the list.

You can do the dolphin or sea turtle excursion on your cruise. You get to swim with them and stuff. The Bronx zoo used to let you ride elephants. And I think the philly zoo lets you ride a camel. We have a Big Cat preserve here in FL too where they do different encounters. Basically, you can have an encounter with just about any animal you want in FL.

I think I rode an elephant when I was a kid, but I’ll have to look into that Big Cat Preserve.

I used to volunteer at a zoo and held snakes and lizards on a regular basis and thought it pretty cool, but if you’re not into reptiles, feeding sting rays is neat. I did that when I was 10 at Sea World.:)
January 12th, 2011 at 10:19 am
I held a snake once…and then it crawled into the pocket on my hoodie…not cool.
January 11th, 2011 at 10:15 am
dude, i’m SO with you on the bird train.
what useless, messy, annoying, non-cuddly animals!!!!! one of my exes had a bird.
EXES…. precisely.
January 12th, 2011 at 10:20 am
I’m with you. Anyone who owns a bird is not someone I can date.
January 11th, 2011 at 11:00 am
I went there years ago to cuddle with wolves! I’ve never known of anyone else who had heard of it 🙂 Too cool!
January 12th, 2011 at 10:20 am
That’s so cool that you went there, too! It was an awesome experience.
January 11th, 2011 at 11:18 am
That looks amazing. The closest I ever got to an animal in this way was “petting” a dolphin at SeaWorld while they were swimming.
January 12th, 2011 at 10:23 am
I still have never been to SeaWorld. I think I need to do that.

I say buy a cheetah print body suit and go run with the cheetahs! Whose done that, right? You’d be a pioneer. Just be sure to buy the matching handbag so that you can take your pop tarts. Also, wear one of those video cameras that attaches to your forhead so all your loyal readers can get the National Geographic perspective of it all! That’s totally my vote. Did I win?
January 12th, 2011 at 10:24 am
Oooo…I like the way you think…except I don’t do animal prints. Or running. But maybe I should make an exception.
January 11th, 2011 at 1:04 pm
I remember your old wolf pic post. Very cool.
January 11th, 2011 at 1:35 pm
OOH. Do this: http://www.unexso.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=91&Itemid=50
We did a few years ago. Was faboo. Oh, and last year I might’ve accidentally molested a sea turtle in Belize. But that’s a story for another day.
Is there a manatee rescue somewhere?
January 12th, 2011 at 10:25 am
Thank you for the dolphin link! That looks cool!

I am all for any animal rescue-type places. Your dollar goes towards supporting the rescue, and they’re usually educational, etc.
Because…. here’s the thing. With my whole conservation-y tree-hugger-y background, I get a lil… something when people want to pet animals. A lot of animals are wild, and many are shy. They don’t really like to be petted. Take sea turtles for instance. Very shy creatures, they hide under a rock for hours and hours until they must have a breath of air… swim slowly to the surface only to be chased by a snorkler. Ah! A snorkler! Dive! Dive! They try diving to avoid, but pretty soon they have to breather, damnit!
Look, I know said snorkler doesn’t mean to bother the turtle – they just don’t have the info to know not to do that. And I also understand that one great way to get people to care about the world is to put them in touch with it but… it’s not always in the best interest of the ecosystem or the animals themselves.
So… that’s my two cents. I am getting off my soap box now.
January 12th, 2011 at 10:30 am
Good point. Some of the wolves were shy, so they stayed far away from us visitors.
January 11th, 2011 at 3:12 pm
True dat. If it helps to know, the sea turtle thing was pure accident. Or kismet maybe, who knows? 😀 (He never calls, he never writes…. *sigh*)

Wolves are most awesome creatures. About your 35 for 35 list, how about sponsoring “donating” to a wolf related cause. Great article, by the way.
January 12th, 2011 at 6:30 pm
Oh yeah! Instead of petting – how about sponsoring or “adopting” an animal? You know – from afar! 😀
January 11th, 2011 at 5:54 pm
How about a grizzly bear?
January 12th, 2011 at 10:30 am
I don’t even know where I could do that. Safely. Suggestions?
January 12th, 2011 at 6:43 pm
Did you know about Bart the Bear (famous actor) and Doug Sues? Yes – vid is a lil cheesey and the Seues are too, but bet you’ll tear up just a lil… plus, pretty cool..
They also have a conservation group in Bart’s name that’s pretty cool, and does trips!

I just checked out the Vital Ground link. That looks pretty cool! I wish it weren’t so far away. I’ll start saving now!
January 13th, 2011 at 1:18 pm
I know – I wish money grew on trees! 😀
Did you check vids of Bart and Doug? So awesome. There’s one with Brad Pitt (a young Brad Pitt) and lil Brad is SO nervous, it’s pretty funny.

Not yet. My computer and YouTube weren’t getting along last night. I”ll try again this weekend.
January 12th, 2011 at 12:46 am
I’ve always wanted to pet a tiger. Yes. I am being serious. I just wouldn’t know how to ever go about that – ’cause you know, I do like my hands…and my other various limbs…and my life…
But a tiger? A tiger would be awesome.
January 12th, 2011 at 10:31 am
A tiger would definitely be cool. Do you know a tiger who’s up for a visit?
January 12th, 2011 at 6:01 am
You can stick your head in a crocadile mouth. That’s pretty legit. I’d never do it myself, but I’ve seen it done. lol
January 12th, 2011 at 10:31 am
That’s a bit too risky for me. Plus I want it to be a semi-cute animal. =)
January 13th, 2011 at 2:38 pm
oh my gosh! A wlf sat in your lap! That’s so badass, and cool, and cute, and AWEOME. I’ve never even seen a wolf in person. I think that’s going to have to go on my list…
January 14th, 2011 at 1:53 pm
Thanks for the shout-out, Thoughts! I think that Cocoa was the one who let me rub her tummy. She was so friendly.
I second everyone who said dolphins should be next if for no other reason than you will get a warm vacation by the water out of it.
