I’ve never been someone who makes New Year’s resolutions.
In fact, until I started dating Kiefer Sutherland, New Year’s Eve was just another day to me. I never stayed up to watch the ball drop, and I was usually in bed by 10:30….with a few exceptions.
This year I’m still not making any resolutions. Isn’t my 30 Before 30 List like a whole buttload of resolutions?
Anyways, the other night at dinner, Boo and Radley played High-Low. You go around the table and say the high part of your day and the low part of your day.
For example:
Low: My Pop-Tart was broken and crumbly.
High: I drank a milkshake for lunch. (My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard…. Sorry.)
So instead of resolutions, I am going to take a moment to reflect on 2010 Boo-Radley-High-Low style.
Overall, 2010 was pretty good year. Here are the highlights:
- I started a blog!
- Kiefer said he wasn’t ready to move in together, so I moved in with Blarney instead.
- I met Sam Raimi.
- After years of doctors nagging me, I finally had a colonoscopy. All clear! (In more ways than one.) My glorious butt is still gloriously healthy and cancer-free!
- A post was Freshly Pressed!
- I forgave.
- I wore 3 Halloween costumes this year: Tinkerbell, Zombie Bruce Campbell, and Little Red Riding Hood.
- I ran/walked two 5Ks: Cupcakes and Breast Cancer.
- Mephistopheles finally paid me back.
- A laser zapped my bikini line.
- I sold my motorcycle.
- A wolf sat in my lap, and a butterfly landed in my hair.
So that’s my year in a nutshell. What were the highs and lows of your 2010? (You can use Thy as an example.)
I’ve been reading some of your blogs from almost the beginning, but many blogs are new to me. Sometimes I read a post, you mention something from your past, and then I feel left out.
As you look back on 2010, I’m asking you to post some of your highs and lows. What should I know about you?
Happy New Year!

Highest point: getting both my girls treated for the right medical issues
Lowest point: seeing my littlest lady in a hospital bed scared as hell (still chokes me up thinking about it.)
As for the rest of the year I think Thy did much better covering that then I ever could. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I’m glad your daughter and wife are ok!
January 3rd, 2011 at 10:02 am
I am so glad to know who Blarney is now! Shew! Great post.
Happy New Year to you, Kiefer, Blarney, Boo, Radley, Esme and anyone else I forgot!
ps. I think Esme was in my dream the other night..weird!
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:16 pm
So that’s where Esme was…I want to hear about your dream!
January 3rd, 2011 at 11:01 am
Happy new year! High point: I’ve made some wonderful blogger friends…
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:17 pm
Hey Abby! It’s been awhile! Glad to see you’re back!
January 3rd, 2011 at 12:21 pm
Well one of my high points was getting freshly pressed (we have that in common) and meeting you in blogoland! I hope this year is an amazing one for us both!
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:21 pm
Thanks! Me, too!
January 3rd, 2011 at 12:27 pm
You owned a motorcycle?? Scary!
High – Getting married
Low – T losing his job.
It was a roller coaster year for us!
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:22 pm
Motorcycles aren’t too scary.
I know a lot of people who lost jobs in 2010…that’s scary!
January 3rd, 2011 at 1:01 pm
Let’s just say my “high” was coming out of 2010 with all my limbs and emotions in tact.
January 4th, 2011 at 8:36 am
That’s a good high.
January 3rd, 2011 at 1:09 pm
High: Realizing what I want to be when I ‘grow up’ – a forensic psychiatrist- and becoming more dedicated (ahem, obsessed) then I ever expected to be.
Low: Having a panic attack in the middle of church, and then having another one the following week during church again! And then starting to have another even when we changed churches… I’m considering therapy. 😉
Sounds like you had a memorable year 😀 Happy 2011!!
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:29 pm
A forensic psychologist! Awesome!
I hope that was the last of your panic attacks!
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:22 pm
Love the high/low idea! Congrats on the colonoscopy! And even more important, freshly pressed? Dang, you’re like a celebrity.
Happy New Year!
January 4th, 2011 at 8:36 am
Thank you! Happy New Year to you and the Chalupa!
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:24 pm
So glad I was able to set an example but I’m always told I’m a bad influence, lol. You had a chance encounter with a laser? oooh, I’m so jealous. (12) shared in your colonoscopy journey and everything came out ok on the other end (that was bad, wasn’t it?) You had a motorcycle? I wish I had one to sell. Just saying that you sold a motorcyle makes you seem so bad ass 😉 I’ve learned so many things today……
January 4th, 2011 at 8:37 am
12 had to go through that? Poor thing!
Selling a motorcycle isn’t as bad ass as still having one.

Highs:
-I found your blog. And I’m in love with it.
-I started a blog. Then you found my blog. And now you always leave insightful comments.
-Independence. New friends. New boys. Travel. Concerts.
-I didn’t lose my scholarship.
-I found out how to be confident. And I found out that everyone loves confidence.
Lows:
-New boys can be trouble. And by “can” I mean they usually always are.
-Independence, travel and concerts have made me poor.
January 4th, 2011 at 8:38 am
Those are some awesome Highs!
Your highs are good reasons to be poor.
January 3rd, 2011 at 3:40 pm
Highs & Lows. Oy, this year has been low and lower…but all the more reason to find some rare highs floating up there in the clouds and pull them down to earth so I can examine them for awhile. Fabulously awesome list you shared.
P.S. I found you by way of Hippie Cahier. She spoke very highly of you in her comment response 🙂
January 3rd, 2011 at 5:17 pm
I’m trying to get past the fact that you owned a motorcycle. 🙂
OK, I’m all right now. I share 3 things w/ you: starting a blog (on WordPress), a clean colonoscopy (worst medical experience EVER) and getting Freshly Pressed. I think I found your blog through the latter, come to think of it.
For me, a real high has been finding blogs like yours and “meeting” some really amazing people.
January 4th, 2011 at 8:42 am
I had a colposcopy a few years ago. The colonoscopy was a breeze compared to that wretchedness. I’m glad yours came back clean as well!
January 3rd, 2011 at 5:27 pm
High…My son leaving for college
Low…realizing I couldnt goof with him everyday
January 4th, 2011 at 8:42 am
Awwww….
Have you gone to Disney World yet? My parents did that when my brother and I left for college. I think it helped the healing process.
January 3rd, 2011 at 6:27 pm
High: getting Puppy aka Awesome
Low: still struggling in every aspect of the word LIFE
January 3rd, 2011 at 8:40 pm
Always love your posts, and this one especially! So amazing that you’ve accomplished so much this year.
But for the sake of the game, my high/low:
High: Starting the blog
Low: Laying down in my maybe boyfriend’s elevator
I have higher aspirations for 2011.

January 4th, 2011 at 8:46 am
I love reading your blog so I’m glad that’s a high. And at least your lows make for good blog material.
January 3rd, 2011 at 10:37 pm
Low: Facing the truth.
High: Surviving the consequences.
Oh, and the lobster mac and cheese at Morton’s. Definitely a high.
January 4th, 2011 at 8:44 am
Surviving the consequences is a good high! And you’ve been to Morton’s? When I pass it, I sigh.
January 3rd, 2011 at 11:18 pm
You are complete proof that someone can be funny and awesome through the worst, best, and even strangest situations! A definite high for this year for me was your comment being the very first (non spam) on my blog! Thank you for keeping up with all of the crazy twists and turns of my life!
A low is definitely breaking Zee’s heart. I have resolved to post details soon!
Happy New Year!
-Kay
January 4th, 2011 at 8:48 am
Mine was the first? I feel so special.
You blogged about Zee? I subscribed to your blog, but I haven’t been getting emails with new posts. =( I’ll go check it out.
January 4th, 2011 at 12:12 am
If I listed all my high and lows of 2010, I’d be here all night. But a definite high was meeting you, my zombie-chocolate-lover-awesomesauce friend!
January 4th, 2011 at 8:48 am
Right back at ya!
January 4th, 2011 at 7:25 am
Hi. Much better idea than resolutions, TA.
High: Our kids seeing the ocean for the first time.
Low: Taking our kids to see the ocean. (Just kidding. Even though it did involve 40 hours of vehicle time, it was amazing.)
Glad to have crossed blogging paths, TA. Here’s to a great 2011.
January 4th, 2011 at 8:49 am
40 hours plus 4 kids…I think that qualifies you for sainthood.
January 4th, 2011 at 9:56 am
I’m really shocked that a colonoscopy is on your “high” list of 2010. I would think of it more like this:
High: I’m cancer free!
Low: I had to get a colonoscopy
Just saying.
-L
January 4th, 2011 at 10:30 am
I’m counting the colonoscopy as a high because I lost like 5 or 6 pounds doing it. And it was the means to the High.
January 4th, 2011 at 11:44 am
OK, I’ll bite. But I always start with bad news and end on high notes.
Lows:
1. As with Miss Thoughts, traveling has had a serious impact on my cash flow.
2. I think a very significant friendship is coming to an end.
Highs:
1. Trip to Europe. Worth. Every. Penny.
2. Really and truly done with some past bullshit – and really and truly happy.
3. *work-related accomplishments*
Love your highs! Here’s to 2011!
January 4th, 2011 at 12:03 pm
I wish money grew on trees…I would travel everywhere! I loved reading about your Europe trip.
I’m sorry to hear about the friendship possibly ending. =(
January 4th, 2011 at 4:58 pm
Hey, I love this. I find it to be a wonderful piece. I hope your Christmas and New Years were fabulous. I missed out, because of the flu and bronchitis. (I can’t spell that one off the top of my head.) Can I borrow your sense of humor? You are so funny. I love reading your writings.
January 5th, 2011 at 8:27 am
I’m sorry you were sick! I hope you’re feeling better now!
January 4th, 2011 at 8:49 pm
Love this post. Reflecting on the past year, its been quite the adventure! Started a blog, finished up a year of university, published poetry for the first time…there’s so much, really. Thank you for getting me to remember all the good! 🙂
January 5th, 2011 at 8:28 am
Published poetry! Congrats!
January 5th, 2011 at 10:50 pm
WooHoo for accomplishments!
CONGRATS!
January 10th, 2011 at 10:18 pm
Great recap! Sounds like you had an awesome year. Lots of things to be proud of. Next year’s going to be even better, I think, for both of us!
