Open the gates and seize the day….
1992. I was about 11 years old, in 6th grade, and I was tomboy. I played with boys; I didn’t think they were cute.
That all changed when I saw this face. ::droooool::
And this face.
And these guys doing this.
I could go on forever. And all of these handsome faces could be seen in one movie: Newsies.
That movie made me view boys in a different light. Boys were cute. Boys could sing and dance…and fight. These boys I wanted to hold hands with, not play basketball with.
And now I can relive my youth by seeing Newsies on Broadway. Please excuse me while I squeal like a teenage woo-hoo girl.
I hope Christian Bale is in it. Otherwise I may be setting myself up for disappointment.
Is there an age limit on Cabana boys? Could Christian Bale be my Cabana boy?

I’m pretty sure Batman won’t be there, but that kid from Doogie Howser just might. Enjoy the show. Turn off your phone.
January 30th, 2012 at 8:58 am
Can’t I just put it on vibrate? And I’ll have to put it next to my keys so that’ll make extra noise.
January 27th, 2012 at 8:50 am
I’ve never hear of this = deprived child!
January 27th, 2012 at 9:26 am
I’ve never seen it either… another to add to my list. Love Broadway! (re: Todd, ‘turn off your phone’ hahahaha)

Wow. That brings back some memories. Some very sad and scarring memories. I had no idea the Doogie Howser kid was in that! Yes, I’m sure he doesn’t have anything else going on, so he will probably return. Bale, though? He’s too busy being irate and throwing the F-bomb around to dance anymore, I believe. He was adorable back then, though.

Oh hurrah! Another vehicle for the currently unemployed Jonas tribe!
January 27th, 2012 at 10:34 am
Is that Vinnie Delpino? I’ve never heard him described as the boy who made girls gush.
January 30th, 2012 at 8:59 am
What can I say? I’m a sucker for the dark hair and eyes. The NY accent probably helped.
January 27th, 2012 at 11:29 am
Oh my how I loved Newsies! I say that like I didn’t watch it twice last week (it is on Encore right now). Also? Swing Kids. Love me some dancing boys, I do.
January 30th, 2012 at 9:00 am
Swing Kids is another great one!

I was a tomboy in school too..but I secretly liked one or two boys. I would be a girl at home and creepily cut out their yearbook pictures. Creepily..yikes I can’t believe I admitted that.
January 30th, 2012 at 9:00 am
This is a safe place. Feel free to admit to anything.
January 27th, 2012 at 12:47 pm
I have never seen nor heard of this movie.
*shame*
January 30th, 2012 at 9:01 am
It’s ok. It kinda became a culty movie. It didn’t do well when it released, but then crazy teen girls saw it and went nuts.
January 27th, 2012 at 12:58 pm
I read this in my email box, without the benefit of pictures. It sounded like West Side Story .
I had the hardest time picturing Batman as a Shark…OR a Jet. . . OR a cabana boy.
January 30th, 2012 at 9:02 am
He’s a good actor. I have faith in his cabana boy abilities.

I too was a total tomboy until I was 13 and saw Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show. I was madly in love with Elvis for the next year. After that, he was kind of passe to me, but my mother loved him until the day she died. (I was way too fickle for that kind of devotion.)

Sweet Mother of Knickers, this is wonderful news. I definitely had to dance to this in my 3rd grade recital. I didn’t understand my costume because I hadn’t seen the movie yet. My mom told me I was playing an orphan and damn near ruined my life

I’ve never heard of this. I’m going to have to check it out.
Oh, and I loooovvvveee Christian Bale. Yum.
January 27th, 2012 at 2:52 pm
Never saw this movie! Might have to add it to my Netflix queue.
January 27th, 2012 at 3:02 pm
I think I watched that movie every weekend as a Tween. Christian Bale + that kid who was from like…Brooklyn? They helped me realize I had hormones.
January 30th, 2012 at 9:05 am
Me, too! I think I wore the VHS out. Spot Collins was the kid from Brooklyn.
January 27th, 2012 at 6:19 pm
I remember that movie, but since I’m older than dirt, I thought they were cute kids, not drool-worthy boys. Are you going to see it on Broadway?
January 30th, 2012 at 9:05 am
Yep. Buying my tickets today!
January 28th, 2012 at 12:00 pm
Can you believe I’d never even heard of Newsies until I was about 26??? I’ve always loved musicals, so I have NO idea how I missed out on that one as a child. But one of my friends made me watch it and I loved it!
January 28th, 2012 at 5:05 pm
Aaaaaah, now all I can think when I see Christian Bale is “Tom Lenk’s dance remix of ‘What don’t you [omited] understand?’ is so awesome.” Maybe I’ll be back to a more sensible approach (like yours) in a year or two?
January 29th, 2012 at 9:08 am
I just heard Christian Bale was looking for work as a Cabana Boy. You should look him up!
Nice blog, btw…
January 30th, 2012 at 9:06 am
This news is music to my ears! I’m going to celebrate by breaking into song and dance.
January 29th, 2012 at 9:29 am
I’ve never even HEARD of that film…
January 29th, 2012 at 9:02 pm
I have this movie memorized. You’re going to Newsies LIVE. I am so jealous of you I have to go stick my head in the freezer.
January 30th, 2012 at 9:07 am
Tickets go on sale today. You can still get your own ticket.
January 30th, 2012 at 11:40 am
Oh how I wish I lived close enough to go with you! I still love Newsies and constantly sing the songs to anyone who will (or doesn’t really want to) listen! Just ask my parents. “Santa Fe” is their favorite!!
January 31st, 2012 at 10:09 am
Love that song!
January 31st, 2012 at 11:26 am
Newsies is a movie?? Where have I been, I thought it was just a broadway show. Will add to queue, you are a wealth of knowledge!
